The Río Quimome is a river in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
The Río Quimome flows in its entire length through the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) San José de Chiquitos in the province of Chiquitos in the Department of Santa Cruz . Its origin lies in the wetland of the Bañados de Izozog , a tectonic depression in which the water of the Río Parapetí , flowing from the southwest, collects. Since most of the supplied moisture evaporates due to the year-round high temperatures, the Río Quimome only carries the water flowing out of the Bañados de Izozog in the wet season from November to March.
The Río Quimome flows largely in a northerly direction and after 56 kilometers breaks through the west-east running ridge of the Loma Piedra Negra San Esteban , which rises here 200 to 300 meters from the plain and continues to the Sierra San José. Here the river crosses the 1657-kilometer Ruta 4 trunk road in the town of Quimome , which crosses the country from the Chilean to the Brazilian border in a west-east direction .
After a total of 133 kilometers, the Río Quimome joins the Río Santa María , which flows in from the east, to the Río San Julián , the upper reaches of the Río Itonomas , which continues over the Río Iténez to the Río Mamoré and then over the Rio Madeira to the Amazon . At this point there is also a connection to the Laguna Concepción, a few kilometers to the west .
