Różan ( German Rozan ) is a town and seat of the town and country municipality of the same name in the Powiat Makowski of the Masovian Voivodeship , Poland .
history
The city was founded in 1378 under the Kulm law . With its favorable location on the Narew , the city not only achieved important economic importance. The Russian Empire decided early 20th century, in this strategically important point, a fortress ( Russian ружанский замок , Polish Twierdza Różan ) to build. The fortifications were the scene of fierce fighting during the First World War (1914), the Polish-Soviet War (1920) and the Second World War (1939 and 1944).
