Flashback (photo and caricature competition)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rückblende - German Prize for Political Photography and Caricature is a competition for political photography and caricature in Germany. With prize money of 7,000 euros for the best photo and 5,000 euros for the best caricature and other prizes (as of 2015), the flashback is, according to its own statements, the most valuable award for political photography and caricature in Germany.

history

The flashback has existed as an annual exhibition since 1985. It became a competition in 1995. The prizes are awarded by an independent jury, which also decides which of the photographs and caricatures will appear on the cover of the catalog and which works will be included in the exhibition. The criterion for the selection of the best political photographs and the best caricatures is the successful interpretation of the political year.

Exhibition and catalog

For the 35th flashback, more than 1000 works by 215 professional photographers and 63 caricaturists were submitted in 2018. An exhibition "Flashback 2018" was opened on January 29, 2019 in the State Representation of Rhineland-Palatinate in Berlin and will travel from March 12 through the cities of Trier, Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Bonn, Koblenz, Leipzig, Mainz, Dortmund and Brussels . It shows a selection of 100 photographs and 50 caricatures. Since 2000, a catalog has been published for the flashback.

organizer

The organizers of the flashback are the Representation of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in Berlin and the Federal Association of German Newspaper Publishers together with the partners Federal Press Conference and Photo Finder .
