Rüdiger Krause (born October 9, 1970 in Suhl ) is a German jazz musician (guitarist and composer).

Life

Krause attended the music school in Magdeburg and founded his first band Jazzy there at the age of 14 , which already played mainly his own compositions. From 1991 to 1998 he studied jazz guitar at the Dresden University of Music. During these years he played in the Dresden bands Some Like It Hott with Sven Helbig , Wolfgang Torkler and Tim Schröder, Code MD with Tom Götze, Jens Bürger, Harald Thiemann and Christoph Hermann, Wolfgang Scheffler & Blue Ballads , the Long Island Icetea Jazzfanatics , the Günter Hörig Quintet and the big band Dresdner Tanzsinfoniker led by Günter Hörig . From 1998 to 2012 he was a lecturer at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden and taught improvisation.

As a composer of incidental music, guitarist and musical director he worked for the Dresden State Theater , the Theater Junge Generation , the Theater Chemnitz , the Saxony Theater and the Theater Neustrelitz. In 2002 he became a member of the Günther Fischer Band with Wolfgang Zicke Schneider , Detlef Bielke (until 2013), Matthias Bätzel (since 2013), Tom Götze. 2004–2009 he toured with Manfred Krug and Uschi Brüning .

In 2007 he joined the band of singer-songwriter Barbara Thalheim . After the death of accordionist and band leader Jean Pacalet , Krause became the band's arranger and director in 2012. As a partner of Celine Rudolph , he plays numerous duo concerts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France, also under the name Caruso , which goes back to a nickname from Krause's school days. In Celine Rudolph's band projects, he worked with Michael Wollny , Pepe Berns , Heinrich Köbberling , Rodolfo Stroeter , Hélio Alves , Ricardo Mosca, Zé Luis Nascimento, Gogui Embaló and Andi Bühler.

Since 2014 Rüdiger Krause has also been on stage at the Four Styles Guitar Festival together with the guitarists Ian Melrose, Heiko Ossig and Nikos Tsiachris.

Own projects

Under the band name Electric Krause , projects came on stage initially with Oliver Klemp and Heiko Jung , later with changing line-ups, in which mainly songs composed and written by Rüdiger Krause were played. Since 2007 Electric Krause has been playing the compositions and arrangements of Rüdiger Krause as an instrumental jazz trio with Daniel Cordes and Andi Bühler . In 2013 Krause developed a solo program for which he arranged music by jazz composer Carla Bley . In addition to versions for guitar solo, a trio with Carla Bley and Steve Swallow was recorded with the title Lawns .
