Rüdiger von Hirschberg

Rüdiger Freiherr von Hirschberg (born October 10, 1907 in Bamberg ; † June 12, 1987 in Weilheim ) was a German film producer and line producer .

Life

Rüdiger Freiherr von Hirschberg was the son of Lieutenant General Karl Freiherr von Hirschberg (1855–1927). From 1925 to 1927 (Abitur, inter alia with Bernhard Rehm and Wilhelm Zoepf ) he attended the Maximiliansgymnasium in Munich . He was then to follow in his father's footsteps and become a professional officer in the Reichswehr . However, he first studied at the Technical University in Munich and at the University of Bonn .

In 1933 he decided to switch to film and founded his own production company, Deka-Film GmbH . The first product of this small film company was the prestigious Prussian homage , with Emil Jannings prominently cast, The Old and Young King , with which Hirschberg, in line with the Nazi regime, paid homage to the Führer principle. The following Deka productions were entertainment films.

In 1943 Baron Hirschberg was drafted into the Wehrmacht - he served as first lieutenant and squadron adjutant in the Air Force - and had to stop production. Released from captivity, he began evaluating pre-war films from his own 'Deka' production in 1946. It was not until 1952 that he resumed the production of films, this time as an employee (production manager) of the Munich company "Neue Emelka".

Since the mid-1950s, Hirschberg was only very sporadically active. At the beginning of 1957, the former air force pilot shot a politically very controversial film about the life of the fighter pilot Hans-Joachim Marseille ( The Star of Africa ), who was celebrated during the Nazi era . Six years later, he was again involved in Wolfgang Staudte's historical image of the men's part, which was critical of the past . Finally, the baron tried again as an independent producer ( Message of the Gods , The Falcon ) , with a rather sparse output .
