Rügheim is a district of the city of Hofheim in the Lower Franconian district of Haßberge .

location

The place is about three kilometers south-southwest of Hofheim in Lower Franconia .

history

The Schüttbau, today a culture and conference center

The place was mentioned for the first time in a deed of donation from the Fulda monastery from the year 814 AD, but the origins are suspected as early as the 6th and 7th centuries. Since the 12th century Rügheim was the original parish , mission and mother church for the surrounding villages.

During the Reformation , Rügheim was a nucleus of the Protestant faith. Ironically, the former abbot of the Augustinian monastery in Königsberg was the first to preach here "Protestant", which even Bishop George IV could not prevent. The first Protestant services were held in the Rügheim church as early as 1527. In 1809 Rügheim became the seat of the deanery .

Since the Fuchs von Rügheim remained Protestant, the Schaumbergers remained Catholic, Veit von Schaumberg decided to build his own administrative headquarters, and so another important building in Rügheim, the "Schüttbau", was first mentioned in 1548.

While the castle, in which the knightly canton of Baunach had its seat since 1720, fell to Bavaria in the course of secularization (the father of the poet Rückert supervised the "liquidation" as territorial commissioner in 1806/1807) and slowly became dilapidated, moreover with billeting of French troops had suffered and was finally sold for demolition in 1816, the Schaumberg'sche Schüttbau was preserved and was restored after the incorporation of Rügheim to Hofheim.

  • Ruegheim Castle
It is believed that the origins of Rückheim Castle were laid as early as the 12th century. Today one can only guess that the castle itself was once a magnificent manorial complex. It was across the main street from the market square. Klaus Gimmler (Mainpost) writes in his article about the discovery of an archaeologically significant building find: In 1695 the "Hauß Richheim" - meaning the castle - is described as having four floors. This shows that the castle was surrounded by a three-meter-wide moat.
  • Rügheim Church
Chronicles report that the Rügheimer Pfarrsprengel already comprised over 20 places in 1407, including the Altlandkreis Ebern. This makes the Rügheim church one of the oldest in Haßgau. It is therefore reasonable to assume that Rügheim was a so-called mission parish, that is, it already came into being at the time when Boniface's missionary students took hold here (around the middle / end of the eighth century).
  • The parish of Nordhalben
The parish church, which was previously replaced by a chapel, was probably built between 1556 and 1561, under the government of Prince-Bishop Georg Fuchs von Rügheim , whose coat of arms is attached to the main portal of the church and to the flying buttress of its gate.
