Georg Fuchs of Rügheim (* 6. February 1519 , † 22. March 1561 ) was from 1556 until his death in 1561 as George IV. Bishop of Bamberg and Prince Bishop of high pin Bamberg .

Georg Fuchs von Rügheim in the family context

Georg Fuchs von Rügheim comes from the Franconian noble family von Fuchs (see also list of Franconian knight families ). The reference place Rügheim is today a district of Hofheim in the Lower Franconian district of Haßberge. The family is widely ramified and has also added various localities to the name ( Johann Georg II. Fuchs von Dornheim was Bamberg's bishop from 1623 to 1633).

Life

Georg Fuchs von Rügheim studied at the University of Erfurt in 1535 and was enrolled at the University of Heidelberg in 1537 and at the University of Ingolstadt in 1539 .

At the time of his appointment as Prince-Bishop, Paul IV was Pope and Charles V was Emperor.

In 1557 he redeemed Veldenstein Castle, which his predecessor had pledged to the Burgraves of Nuremberg .

The Prince-Bishop's coat of arms is quartered. Fields two and three take up the family coat of arms of the von Fuchs family. At Siebmacher this is a jumping red fox in gold. The crest with red and gold covers shows a rolled-up red hat with a fox sitting on it. The other two fields show the black lion for Bamberg, covered with a silver sloping bar on a gold background.
