Radioaktiv (official spelling radioactive since 2009 , previously also RadioAktiv ) is a student radio station for the university cities of Mannheim , Ludwigshafen am Rhein and Heidelberg . The program can be received via two VHF frequencies (89.6 MHz in Mannheim, 105.4 MHz in Heidelberg), via cable and via the Internet. Radioaktiv has been broadcasting 46 hours a week since November 2000, the main broadcast times are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The campus radio shares the VHF frequency with the Bermuda radio . The program was first broadcast in May 2001.

Radioaktiv has over 200 members who are volunteers and come together in the carrier association radioaktiv eV. The station is not affiliated with any university and is therefore the only independent campus radio in Baden-Württemberg . In addition to the universities of Mannheim and Heidelberg, the station reports on current events at the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences , the Mannheim Business School , the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Mannheim , the Baden-Wuerttemberg Pop Academy , the SRH University Heidelberg , the PH Heidelberg and the University of Ludwigshafen am Rhein . Support and financial support comes from the State Office for Communication ( LfK ) in Stuttgart . The editorial work is divided into the departments Mannheim (also responsible for Ludwigshafen), Heidelberg, music, culture and sport.

The jingles of the sound design used until mid-2008 contained the musical theme of the piece “ Radio Activity ” by Kraftwerk .

Awards

In 2006 the station received the “Prize of Friends” from the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , in 2004 and 2005 the music programs “Black Box” and “Tinnitus” as well as “pop.aka on air” each achieved second place in the state media award .

In 2018 the editors Konstantin Fliegel, Larissa Blau and Fabian Maier received the LFK media award in the category "Non-commercial organizers, universities and training institutions" for their broadcast Sepp Herberger : A life for football .
