Route
|
The Radschnellweg Wijchen Nijmegen runs from the station Wijchen to Central Station Nijmegen through the south of the province of Gelderland and follows the course of the Tilburg-Nijmegen railway . When it opened in 2007, the rapid cycle route was the first of its kind in the region.
course
The route leads from the roundabout of Stationslaan and Bronckhorstlaan at the train station in Wijchen to the east via Akkerwindestraat and Helmkruidstraat . From now on, the route will continue on cycle paths along the Stationslaan and Nieuweweg streets . The rapid cycle path then runs along Van Rosenburgweg next to Provinciale Weg 324 and continues beyond the entrance to Nijmegen via the Streekpad in a northward direction through a tunnel on the Tilburg – Nijmegen railway line . The route then extends along Provinciale Weg 326 ( Wijchenseweg ) and is passed over a bridge that spans the Maas-Waal Canal . A few meters behind the Nijmegen Goffert train station, the cycle expressway crosses the southern route of the Batavierenpad and leads on via so-called “ auto te gast ” - cycle roads . At the Rozenstraat in the Wolfskuil district, the cycle expressway crosses Provinciale Weg 326 ( Graafseweg ). When the cycle expressway navigates north from the Graafseweg / Arend Noorduijnstraat junction , it leads directly to Nijmegen Central Station.
construction
The original route was not changed by the construction work for the cycle expressway. However, the construction work included the improvement and renewal of the cycle paths and roads, most of which were paved with a new, unmistakably red pavement. Speed bumps and 30 km / h zones have been set up where bike and road traffic meet . Furthermore, unlit paths were equipped with street lamps. The construction costs amounted to an amount of 4.3 million euros.
Traffic volume
In October 2017, the number of cyclists was almost 5000. This corresponds to an increase of 30% compared to 2016.
