The RijnWaalpad ( German  Rhein-Waal-Path ; officially F325 ) is a fast cycle path in the Dutch province of Gelderland . The 15.8-kilometer cycle path leads from Arnhem am Nederrijn to Nijmegen an der Waal . Most of the route runs parallel to Provinciale Weg 325 .

course

The route has two starting points, both of which are in the city center of Arnhem. The western start is at Willemsplein not far from the main train station , the starting point in the east is at Airborneplein . From there the two paths lead on the one hand over the Nelson Mandela Bridge and on the other hand over the John Frost Bridge to the south. Finally, they come together on the Kronenburgdijk south of the GelreDome , whereupon the path initially extends over the Huissensedijk and later leaves the municipality of Arnhem on a cycle path specially created for the route. The route now runs east of the N325 and passes Elst in the municipality of Overbetuwe .

Then you cross the bicycle tunnel below the A15 and drive into the VINEX district Waalsprong in the municipality of Nijmegen . At the junction of Vrouwe Udasingel there is a junction that extends westwards, while the other stage continues straight to the south.

The more western route leads over the cycle bridge Het Groentje at Station Nijmegen Lent over and runs from there over the Snelbinder along the railway bridge to the central station of Nijmegen .

With the other option, you are guided through the center of the Lent district until you finally drive over the Waalbrücke and head towards the Keizer Traianusplein in the city center of Nijmegen.

construction

The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the cycle expressway took place in 2010. In this construction phase, a tunnel under the A15, a bridge over the Graaf Alardsingel in Lent and numerous new paths were laid. The opening of the route took place on July 3, 2015. Instead of 17.7 kilometers previously, the length of the bicycle road is now 15.8 kilometers. At the end of 2016, a tunnel was also built below the Kattenleger near the village of Bemmel in the municipality of Lingewaard . The total costs for the construction of the cycle path amounted to around 17 million euros. The province of Gelderland, the municipalities of Arnhem, Lingewaard, Nijmegen and Overbetuwe as well as Park Lingezegen , Rijkswaterstaat and Fietsersbond were responsible for the construction .

A noise barrier was partially installed along the N325 . Halfway, near the Sillestraat , there is a rest area with seating. The entire path is illuminated by street lighting in the form of the logo of the cycle expressway.
