Rainer Klis
Rainer Klis (born August 7, 1955 in Karl-Marx-Stadt , GDR ; † October 14, 2017 in Chemnitz ) was a German writer and bookseller .
Life
Rainer Klis was the son of an engineer and an industrial clerk. After attending the polytechnic high school , he completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith. He refused to do military service and from 1975 to 1979 carried out various activities. From 1979 to 1982 he studied at the "Johannes R. Becher" literature institute in Leipzig . He then worked as a freelancer, including contributing to the East Berlin magazine “ Das Magazin ” and performing in literary and musical programs. Study trips took him to the Asian republics of the Soviet Union and to Cuba.
In 1989, Rainer Klis was one of the founders of the New Forum and the SDP in Karl-Marx-Stadt ; he was politically active until 1991. He then worked mainly as a journalist and ran a bookstore in his home town of Hohenstein-Ernstthal from 1991 to 2016 . From 1996 onwards he made numerous trips to southern Africa, Lapland and the western United States and Canada.
Rainer Klis was the author of novels , short stories and travel reports . Critics call him a master of the small form and the "Hemingway from Hohenstein-Ernstthal". From 1981 to 1991 he was head of a poetry circle in Karl-Marx-Stadt . He was co-founder and from 1989 to 2007 President of the Saxon Writers' Association ; until 2006 he was a member of the Association of German Writers in Saxony. Since 2005 he has been a member of the PEN Center Germany .
He has been married twice and has a daughter.
