Rajbiraj is a city ( municipality ) in the Terai in southeastern Nepal . It is the administrative seat of the Saptari District and was the administrative seat of the Sagarmatha Administrative Zone .
The city was planned with a regular street grid and central square in the 1950s. It has an airfield with regular connections to Kathmandu . The urban area of Rajbiraj covers 11.96 km².

At the 2011 census, the city of Rajbiraj had 37,738 inhabitants (19,684 of them male) in 7743 households.
