The Lyman Raion (Ukrainian Лиманський район / Lymanskyj rajon ; Russian Лиманский район / Limanski rajon ) is an administrative unit founded in 1923 within the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine .
The Rajon has an area of 1018 km² and a population of around 21,000 inhabitants, the administrative seat is in the eponymous city of Lyman , but this is not itself part of the Rajon area. Between 1925 and May 19, 2016, the Rajon was named Rajon Krasnyj Lyman (Ukrainian Краснолиманський район / Krasnolymanskyj rajon) analogous to the name of the city .
geography
The district is located in the north of Donetsk Oblast, it borders in the north with the district Borowa (in the Oblast Kharkiv ), in the northeast and east with the district Kreminna (in the Oblast Luhansk ), in the southeast with the district Bachmut , in the southwest with the Sloviansk Rajon and to the west on the Isjum Rajon (Kharkiv Oblast).
The river Scherebez (Жеребець), the Netryus (Нетриус), the Siwerskyj Donets , which runs largely as a border river in the south, and the Oskil (in the northeast as the Oskilsk reservoir ) flow through the Rajon , the area lies in the area of the Donets plate , with altitudes between 75 and 190 meters above sea level.
