The Rajon Verkhny Rohatschyk (Ukrainian Верхньорогачицький район / Werchnjorohatschyzkyj rayon , Russian Верхнерогачикский район / Werchnerogatschikski rayon ) is a Raion in the Kherson Oblast in southern Ukraine. The central place of the Rajons is the eponymous urban-type settlement Verkhniy Rohachyk .
history
The Rajon was founded in 1923 as part of the Ukrainian SSR , but dissolved in 1930 and joined the Welyka Lepetycha Rajon . After the occupation by German troops, today's Rajonsgebiet was incorporated into the Reichskommissariat Ukraine in 1942 and was located here in the general district of Dnjepropetrovsk , district of Kamenka / Dnjepr . After the end of the German occupation, the area came back to the Soviet Union / Ukrainian SSR and in 1944 the Rajon was re-established. In 1946 it came to Kherson Raion, was dissolved again in 1963 and re-established in 1966, since 1991 it has been part of today's Ukraine.
geography
The Rajon is located in the north of the Kherson Oblast in the Black Sea lowlands and is very flat, with altitudes between 40 and 80 meters. In the northwest of the district the Kachowka reservoir borders the area, through the district flows the river Rohachyk (Рогачик). It borders in the north on Nikopol Raion (in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast ), in the northeast on Kamyanka-Dniprovska Raion (in Zaporizhia Oblast ), in the east on Velyka Biloserka Raion (Zaporizhia Oblast), in the south-west for a short distance to the Wessele district (Zaporizhia Oblast), to the south to Nyschni Sirohosy district , to the southwest to Velyka Lepetycha district and to the west to Novoworonzowka district .
