Ralf Beil

Ralf Beil (* 1965 in Kobe , Japan ) is a German art historian , curator and art critic . He is General Director of the World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte .

Life

Ralf Beil studied art history, German and philosophy in Freiburg im Breisgau . He acquired his maîtrise d'histoire del'art et d'archéologie at the University of Paris IV and received his doctorate from the University of Essen on the subject of "Food as an art material. Food for the head and stomach". From 1990 to 1998 he worked as a freelance exhibition curator and art critic for Artefactum, Neue Zürcher Zeitung , Art Bulletin, and Kunstforum International. From 1999 to 2003 he was exhibition curator and curator of the painting and sculpture collection at the Kunstmuseum Bern , 2004/2005 curator and exhibition curator for the 20th and 21st centuries at the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts Lausanne . From 2006 to 2015 he was director of the Mathildenhöhe Institute in Darmstadt . In 2015 he became director of the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg , but received notice of termination in 2018. Beil has been General Director of the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site since May 1, 2020 .

As a member of the university, Ralf Beil is a member of the university council of the Braunschweig University of Art from 2015 to 2022 .

Awards

Ralf Beil and Peter Kraut received A House full of Music in 2012 for the project and as editors of the exhibition catalog . Strategies in Music and Art, the Justus Bier Prize , which is awarded to outstanding technical and linguistic publications in connection with exhibition projects from German-speaking countries.
