Ralph Gebstedt (born October 8, 1971 in Friedrichroda ) is a former German ski jumper .

Career

Gebstedt made his World Cup debut in jumping the Four Hills Tournament on December 28, 1989 in Oberstdorf . He finished jumping on the large hill in 49th place. Just three days later, on January 1, 1990, Gebstedt surprisingly reached 14th place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . At the ski flying world championship in 1990 in Vikersund he reached the 24th place. This was followed by jumping in the World Cup, in which Gebstedt was mostly unsuccessful and often only landed in the back field. It was not until January 12, 1991 that he reached 11th place in jumping in Oberhof again, a top 20 place. In the ski flying in Tauplitz he reached the 13th place on February 23, 1991, before he could achieve the 2nd place the following day. On March 23, 1991 he reached the 12th place in the first competition in Planica . One day later he won his first and only World Cup in the second jumping on the same hill as well as his first and only ski flying competition with 190 meters. He was the last jumper to win a World Cup with the parallel technique, all subsequent victories were only achieved in the V style . On March 30th he reached in Štrbské Pleso , again a 4th place in jumping on the normal hill. Subsequently, Gebstedt's form decreased and he only got top 30 placements in the following World Cup competitions. It was not until January 25, 1992 that he was able to draw attention to himself again in ski flying, this time in Oberstdorf with an 8th or a 10th place. For another two seasons, however, there were no similar successes in the World Cup. However, in the 1993/1994 season he won the Ski Jumping Continental Cup with 666 points overall. After an increasing performance curve in the 1994/95 season , he was able to achieve 3rd place in normal jumping on December 16, 1995 in Chamonix , France . This was his last podium in an individual competition. On March 2nd, 1996 he was able to achieve 2nd place in the team competition in Lahti , Finland on the large hill. Since afterwards only mediocre results jumped out, Gebstedt ended his active career in March 1998 after the Continental Cup competition in Courchevel . Today he works as a ski jumping trainer at SC Steinbach-Hallenberg.
