Ramón Búa Otero

Ramón Búa Otero (born April 28, 1933 in A Illa de Arousa , † April 21, 2012 in Vigo ) was Roman Catholic bishop of Calahorra y La Calzada-Logroño .

Life

Ramón Búa Otero studied philosophy in the seminary in Tui (1951/56) and Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1957/1961). He was ordained a priest on March 19, 1961 in Rome. He graduated from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in 1964 in Biblical Studies .

From 1966 to 1982 he was, among other things, Prefect of the Seminary and Professor of Sacred Scripture at the Major Seminary in Vigo . He was the episcopal delegate for education and catechesis as well as religious adviser to the broadcaster COPE-Vigo. Since 1969 he has been Professor of Religious Studies at the Instituto Nacional Femenino de Enseñanza Media in Vigo. From 1978 to 1982 he was pastor of the Collegiate Church of Santa María in the old town of Vigo.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Tarazona on January 11, 1982 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Spain , Antonio Innocenti , donated him episcopal ordination on February 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Elías Yanes Álvarez , Archbishop of Saragossa , and Gabino Díaz Merchán , Archbishop of Oviedo .

On September 14, 1989, he was appointed Bishop of Calahorra y La Calzada - Logroño by Pope John Paul II . In the Spanish Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Episcopal Commission for Education and Catechesis (1982–1999) and the Commission of Catholic Bishops and Superiors (1984–1993) as well as a member of the Episcopal Commission for the seminaries and universities (1993–2005).

On September 15, 2003, John Paul II accepted his health resignation after a car accident.
