Randall D. Larson

Randall D. Larson (* 13 July 1954 in San Francisco , California as Randall Douglas Larson ) is an American author , editor , essayist film and musicologist , journalist and international correspondent for film music. He is the author and editor of several works on the American bestselling author Robert Bloch , on the complex of topics of film music and special other film genres such as: B. the science fiction and horror films. He has been writing on the genre of fantastic literature since the early 1970s, much of it in the nature of H. P. Lovecraft .

life and work

Randall Larson is a regular contributor to essays and critical essays, mainly on the subject of international film composition, including accompanying texts for soundtrack CDs and hundreds of articles for horror, fantasy, cinema and film music journals. In addition, Larson has also made a name for himself as a critical journalist through numerous published articles and articles for magazines about the US fire department as well as about public safety facilities and structures and emergency communication measures between managers. His first book was published in 1985 by the American independent specialist publisher Scarecrow Press. Title of the book: Musique Fantastique: A Survey of Film Music in the Fantastic Cinema , which is now one of the standard works of the genre in renowned specialist circles.

Further publications, books and articles about American cinema, fantastic literature, and above all about the music of film and cinema followed. Larson is also the author of specialist publications by the US bestselling author Robert Bloch, best known for his work Psycho and the subsequent film adaptation by director Alfred Hitchcock . As a long-time journalist, connoisseur and companion of the film music scene, he is known as a valued interviewer and expert with many international composers and is friends with many. He has conducted countless interviews with well-known film music composers. With well-known composers from Hollywood as well as the internationally renowned composers of European and Japanese cinema. He conducted interviews with Henry Mancini , Russell Garcia , Leonard Rosenman , Basil Poledouris , Trevor Jones , Masaru Satō , Akira Ifukube , Mark Snow , George Duning , James Horner , Christopher Young , James Bernard , Luboš Fišer and many others.

Larson was the senior editor for professional magazines such as Soundtrack Magazine, editor of CinemaScore: The Film Music Journal and a regular columnist specializing in film music for Cinefantastique magazine .

His standard work for film music, Musique Fantastique: A Survey of Film Music in the Fantastic Cinema , appeared in a second updated and completely revised new edition in September 2012.
