Raoul Delaye

Raoul Delaye (born August 28, 1922 in Rabat , † 1982 in Spain ) was a French diplomat , most recently with the rank of ambassador .

Life

His father was an officer. He first studied in Rabat and was trained at the ENA elite university from 1947 to 1949 . Then he entered the diplomatic service .

Delaye was stationed in Morocco from 1949 to 1958, where his son Bruno Delaye was born in Tangier in 1952. From 1959 to 1967 he was accredited at the French embassy in Bonn . From 1968 to 1972 he was the French ambassador to Sangoulé Lamizana in Ouagadougou , Upper Volta .

Raoul Delaye was a personal friend of Michel Jobert and headed the press department of the French Foreign Ministry on the Quai d'Orsay from 1972 to 1975. From 1975 to 1977 he was French Ambassador to Bucharest at Nicolae Ceausescu . From 1977 to January 1981 he was French ambassador in Tehran to Mohammad Reza Pahlavi .

January 1981 he became the French ambassador in Madrid to Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo and Felipe González . In 1982 he died in a car accident in Spain.
