Rathendorf Church

history

Rathendorf

The Rathendorfer Church was built in the second half of the 12th century. It has been heavily changed by renovations, fire damage and reconstruction until recently.

Since the late Middle Ages, part of the village was directly under the electoral office of Rochlitz , other parts were under the monastery of Geringswalde , the council of the city of Rochlitz or were owned by noble landlords of the Gnandstein manor . In 1510 the church received a winged altar made by Franz von Geringswalde . A few years earlier, the place had been raised to an independent parish. The parish has been Protestant since 1540. Around 1764 Rathendorf was divided in terms of its administration. The part belonging to the Rochlitz office was Amtsdorf, the part belonging to the Borna office was under the jurisdiction of the Syhra manor .

When Rathendorf became an independent municipality in 1834, it had 441 inhabitants. From 1856 the place belonged to the Rochlitz court office and from 1875 to the Rochlitz district administration . The population peaked in 1946 with 667. Many of them were refugees from the east.

Oberpickenhain

Around 1378 Oberpickenhain belonged to the "castrum Rochlitz". In 1548 part of the town belonged to the Geithain council, another to the Rochlitz council and a third to the Sahlis manor . In 1764, the part belonging to the Rochlitz office was Amtsdorf, the part belonging to the Borna office was subject to the jurisdiction of the Sahlis manor. From 1856 the place belonged to the Geithain court office and from 1875 to the Borna district administration .

History since the incorporation of Oberpickenhain

1956 Oberpickenhain was incorporated into Rathendorf. On October 1, 1996, both villages and Ossa came to the municipality of Narsdorf. When it was incorporated, Rathendorf had 450 inhabitants.

From 1998 to 2000 the Rathendorfer church was extensively renovated inside and out. Immediately after this work was completed, the church burned down on March 31, 2000. Thieves who stole the altar pieces set fire to the building to cover their tracks. The exterior was then faithfully rebuilt and the interior was designed in a modern way. The church, which was rebuilt within 18 months, was consecrated on October 28, 2001.

In 2005 the Protestant parish became part of the Geithain parish.
