geography

Syhra and Theusdorf are in the Kohrener Land between Kohren-Sahlis in the southwest and Geithain in the northeast. The Ossabach flows through the villages . In Syhra there are currently two ponds, the Bartelteich, through which the water of a small brook flows from a forest to the east with a former orchard, and the sheep's pond, also known as the "Mitelsten".

history

Syhra Church

Syhra am Ossabach was first mentioned in 1308 as "Sirowe". Later place names were "Sirau" and "Siritz". At the behest of the Saxon Duke George the Bearded , Syhra was given its current name in 1484, which is a derivative of the word "Syrzje" meaning "river, lake or swamp". This indicates the nature of the place in the valley of the Ossabach (popularly called "cat").

West of Syhra in the direction of the Ossabach flow, the places Theusdorf (mentioned in 1350 as "Tufelsdorf") and Eckersberg (called in 1208 as "Eggehardesberc") were created. The latter was destroyed by the Hussites in 1452 . Since then the desert has belonged to Theusdorf and was mentioned around 1694 as a Vorwerk, whose jurisdiction partly belonged to the manors Sahlis and Syhra.

Syhra Castle

In 977 Syhra was mentioned as a royal court, belonged to the diocese of Merseburg , was subordinate to the Burgraves of Leisnig , then until 1460 to von Allmissendorf, until 1460 Heinrich von Einsiedel bought the estate at Gnandstein Castle . The jurisdiction over Syhra and Theusdorf lay with the Gnandstein manor. Its owners also held the church patronage over Syhra in 1580. Today's castle was erected around 1620 as a two-storey building with a round stair tower and tent roof and was given a half-hip roof in the 18th century. Syhra is mentioned in 1696 as a separate manor, later also connected to the Vorwerk in Niedergräfenhain . In 1945 Joachim-Hans von Einsiedel (1901–1989) was expropriated. His son Horst-Alexander von Einsiedel (born 1942) bought back parts of the estate in 1995. The castle belongs to the municipality, which leaves the late Renaissance building empty and dilapidated, while the outside of the gatehouse of the neglected manor complex has been renovated.

Syhra and Theusdorf with Eckersberg were in the Electoral Saxon and Royal Saxon Office Borna until 1856 . From 1856 they belonged to the Geithain court office and from 1875 to the Borna district administration . On April 1, 1935, Theusdorf was incorporated with Eckersberg to Syhra. In 1948 Eckersberg was reclassified to Kohren-Sahlis. During the second district reform of the GDR in 1952, Syhra with its district Theusdorf was assigned to the district of Geithain in the Leipzig district , which was added to the Leipzig district in 1994 . Syhra and Theusdorf were incorporated into Geithain on March 1, 1994.
