geography

Niedergräfenhain is located in Kohrener Land between Frohburg in the west and Geithain in the east. The Eula flows through the village .

history

Niedergräfenhain was first mentioned in a document in 1274. The place was probably created in the course of the Germanization policy in the Osterland , which Wiprecht von Groitzsch had operated around 1104. The place was probably founded on or in the forest of Count Dedo von Rochlitz-Groitzsch . Niedergräfenhain belonged to the "castrum Rochlitz " around 1378 . Around 1551 the place was under the jurisdiction of the Gnandstein manor , and around 1696 the Syhra manor . The outwork in the village was created in 1571 by Abraham von Einsiedel from Syhra through the purchase of former farms.

Until 1856 Niedergräfenhain was part of the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Borna . From 1856 the place belonged to the Geithain court office and from 1875 to the Borna district administration . During the second district reform of the GDR in 1952, the village was assigned to the Geithain district in the Leipzig district , which was continued in 1990 as the Saxon district of Geithain and was incorporated into the newly formed district of Leipziger Land in 1994 and in the district of Leipzig in 2008. Niedergräfenhain was incorporated into Geithain on January 1, 1994.

The Niedergräfenhain church was probably built on a porphyry rock in the second half of the 13th century. The rectangular choir tower with the coupled, ogival sound openings of the building is striking.
