The Waldhufendorf Nauenhain was mentioned in 1241 as Nuenhain . As an exclave between the Electoral Saxon offices of Colditz and Rochlitz and the exclave of people's grove of the Leisnig office , the place belonged to the property of the Zschillen monastery . This came in 1543 with the entire property to Duke Moritz von Sachsen , who immediately secularized it and exchanged it for the Lords of Schönburg for the places Hohnstein , Wehlen and Lohmen in today's Saxon Switzerland . Therefore, the name Wechselburg came up for the place and the monastery complex . Since then, the exclave of Nauenhain has been run as an official village of the Schönburg rule, Wechselburg , which belonged to the Lords of Schönburg under Wettin suzerainty. The local church has been a parish church since 1334 .

As part of the administrative reorganization of the Kingdom of Saxony, Nauenhain was placed under the administration of the Royal Saxon Office of Rochlitz as part of the Schönburg feudal lordship of Wechselburg in 1835 . From 1856 Nauenhain belonged to the Geithain court office and from 1875 to the Borna district administration .

During the second district reform of the GDR in 1952, Nauenhain was assigned to the Geithain district in the Leipzig district . The neighboring town of Thierbaum , which was incorporated on January 1, 1974 , changed from the Grimma district to the Geithain district when it was incorporated . In 1990 the municipality of Nauenhain with the district Thierbaum came to the Saxon district of Geithain . The district of Thierbaum was reclassified to Bad Lausick on January 1, 1994 , which meant that it also moved to the Grimma district and, from August 1, 1994, belonged to the Muldental district . Nauenhain, on the other hand, joined the newly formed district of Leipziger Land in 1994 , which was added to the district of Leipzig in 2008. Nauenhain was incorporated into Geithain on July 1, 1995.
