history
The forest hoof village Wickershain was first mentioned in 1135 as "Wiggershagen". The manorial power over the place was divided before 1764. It was exercised by the parish and the council of Geithain, the council of Rochlitz , the council of Penig and the Königsfeld manor . Another part was subordinate to the Rochlitz office as an official village . From 1764 to 1856, Wickershain belonged completely as an administrative village to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Rochlitz. The offices were dissolved during the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony in the 19th century . As a result, Wickershain came under the administration of the Geithain court office in 1856 and in 1875 under the newly founded Amtshauptmannschaft Borna .
As a result of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the Wickershain community was incorporated into the Geithain district in the Leipzig district. On January 1, 1974, Wickershain was incorporated into Geithain. As a district of the city of Geithain, Wickershain belonged to the Saxon district of Geithain from 1990 , which was merged into the newly formed district of Leipziger Land in 1994 and in the district of Leipzig in 2008.
