Ratko Peric
Ratko Perić (born February 2, 1944 in Tuk near Bjelovar , Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian Roman Catholic clergyman and emeritus Bishop of Mostar-Duvno and Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Trebinje-Mrkan in Bosnia and Herzegovina .
Life
Ratko Peric received in the June 29, 1969 Prisoj the priesthood . Perić obtained his doctorate in theology in 1971 at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome . He was then, among other things, a professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University
Pope John Paul II appointed him coadjutor bishop of Mostar-Duvno on May 29, 1992 . The Archbishop of Zagreb , Cardinal Franjo Kuharić , donated him episcopal ordination on September 14th . Co- consecrators were Archbishop Josip Uhač and Pavao Žanić , Bishop of Mostar-Duvno.
With the age-related resignation of Pavao Žanićs on July 23, 1993, he succeeded him as Bishop of Mostar-Duvno. At the same time he became Apostolic Administrator of Trebinje-Mrkan.
Like his predecessor, he is a sharp critic of the supposed apparitions of Mary in the pilgrimage town of Meugorje and refused to recognize it as a shrine or pilgrimage site .
During the Bosnian War , he was held hostage in Mostar for ten hours on April 2, 1995 , until he was freed by the intervention of the Mayor of Mostar and the United Nations Protection Force . He was the victim of a robbery at his residence in Mostar the previous month .
Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation as Bishop of Mostar-Duvno and Administrator of Trebinje-Mrkan on July 11, 2020.
