The Ratsgymnasium Stadthagen (RGS) is an ancient and modern-language mathematical and scientific musical high school and a European school in Stadthagen ( district of Schaumburg ). It has existed since 1330, making it one of the oldest schools in the German-speaking area . It is a modern European school, which is at the same time a school without racism - a school with courage , as well as a humanitarian school , "Nimbus" music school, partner school of the German-American Partnership program , Lions Quest school . She is also a member of the Schaumburg cooperation network for special talents.

General

The RGS has 830 students (as of Oct. 2019). The range of courses covers both the linguistic (English, French, Latin, Spanish, ancient Greek) as well as the natural and social sciences as well as the artistic and sporting areas. The RGS is the “home” of the Ratsband Stadthagen and the Büsching-Street Big Band , two internationally known orchestral formations. The Ratsgymnasium is a very lively school with outstanding results and projects in many areas such as B. in music, in theater, in astronomy, in the philosophical field, in robotics and in many other areas. history

As early as 1330, the city statutes mention the "Latin city school". In 1416 the Latin school behind the church was rebuilt. A new school building at this point is documented in 1565. In 1571 the school regulations of Count Otto IV were introduced. In 1610 the grammar school was illustrious in the former Franciscan monastery Latin school with a two-stage academic grammar school . The Ernestina University, founded in 1619, was relocated to Rinteln in 1621 . The city school, today the building of the upper level of the IGS Schaumburg, was rebuilt in 1878. The citizens' daughter school was rebuilt in 1887 at the cattle market. The secondary school for girls was founded in 1894. In 1902 the Realprogymnasium was established . The boys' school was rebuilt in 1903. The school was nationalized in 1922. In 1923 co-education was introduced. The secondary school for girls was closed in 1926. In 1938, the first Abitur was taken at the state high school .

In 1946 the school became a state high school and a grammar school. Ten years later it became a Gymnasium in Stadthagen. A new building was built on Büschingstrasse in 1963. The name was changed to Ratsgymnasium Stadthagen in 1970. The orientation stage was introduced in 1977. The first Abitur after the Reformed Upper School was accepted in 1978. Since September 21, 2001 the Ratsgymnasium is officially a European school . The fourth wing was completed in 2007, followed by the inauguration of the newly designed schoolyard in 2009.

School library

The school library keeps a valuable old inventory , which u. a. Includes chain books of which there are very few left in the world. Today they are kept in the state archive in Bückeburg . The school library is a large, modern media center in which 16,000 media are available.

The symphonic wind orchestra of the Ratsgymnasium Stadthagen, the RATSBAND STADTHAGEN is an upper school orchestra and consists of approx. 60 students in grades 11 and 12. All brass and woodwind instruments are used in the wind classes in the 5th and 6th year. Percussion instruments and basses are also encouraged from grade 5.

The high school orchestra has toured all five continents with its conductor; Among other things, the Ratsband represented Germany at the youth festival in Shenzhen (China) and won gold.

The council band regularly performs a musical. With Missa Katharina for the first time a mass a. a. performed at the Kirchentag in Bremen and in 2010 won the associated “Euregio” presentation competition. In December 2012, the wind orchestra training at the Ratsgymnasium was the first grammar school in Lower Saxony to be awarded the “Nimbus” quality mark for music by the Lower Saxony Music Association.

The Büsching Street Big Bands and the Big Band “Body & Soul” are the big bands from the school's symphonic wind orchestras. The bands play both at events in the Schaumburger Land and at national events. In 2008, the big band played at the Bertelsmann Foundation in Berlin in front of the state ministers of culture and gave music to the Christmas party of the state school authority of Lower Saxony. In 2009 she played at the Didacta fair, at the awarding of the seal of approval for schools in Hanover, at the Hanover Opera at the "open stage" event and at the German Prevention Day in Hanover's dome. In June 2009 the band with their leader Andreas Meyer achieved the award “Participated with very good success” in the Skoda “Jugend jazzt” competition in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. In 2011 the band played in the "Maharadscha" (Hanover Zoo) at the Conference of Ministers of Education of the Länder. In 2012 and 2015 the big band in Wolfenbüttel received the award of “participated very well” at “Jugend jazzt”.

The Big Band Body & Soul Stadthagen

The big band Stadthagen BODY & SOUL achieved the highest number of points at the Lower Saxony orchestra competition in Rothenburg in 2015 with 24.5 points and was among the top 5 in Germany at the German orchestra competition in Ulm in 2016 . The Big Band became known nationwide primarily through the Lower Saxony Big Band Meeting, which takes place every two years in Stadthagen. Body & Soul plays here regularly with the NDR Big Band. Numerous professional d musicians have emerged from the band who also played in the BuJazzO federal jazz orchestra.

The ensemble has recorded ten CDs with their conductor Andreas Meyer. You can hear both original compositions for symphonic wind orchestras and big bands as well as arrangements from light and serious music.
