Rauli Sohlman (born March 23, 1959 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper and current coach , who played in the SM-liiga , the highest Finnish league, for several years during his active time from 1974 to 1989 .

Career

Rauli Sohlman began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Koo-Vee , for whose professional team he was active from 1974 to 1979, first in the SM-sarja and from the 1975/76 season in its successor SM-liiga . The goalkeeper then moved to Jokerit Helsinki within the top Finnish league . He led the capital city club to the runner- up in the 1982/83 season and he himself was awarded the Urpo-Ylönen trophy as the best goalkeeper in the SM-liiga. In 1982 and 1985 he was also named Ilta-Sanomat Star Player of the SM-liiga. In the 1986/87 season he had to accept relegation to the second class I divisioona with his team as bottom of the table. In the 1988/89 season he achieved promotion to the SM-liiga with Jokerit, whereupon he ended his career at the age of 30.

In 2007 and 2008 Sohlman worked as the goalkeeping coach of the Finnish U16 national team. Since 2010 he has been working in the same position in the youth department of the amateur club GrIFK.

International

For Finland Sohlman took part in the U19 European Junior Championships in 1976 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 1977 , 1978 and 1979 .
