Rawnez (also Ravnets , Bulgarian Равнец , Bulgarian for common yarrow ) is a village in the municipality of Burgas in the Burgas Oblast in southeastern Bulgaria .
Rawnez is located in the Burgas Plain , west of the Burgas Lake , about 20 west of the city center of Burgas . The closest places are Bratowo and Trojanowo .
In 1913, after the outbreak of the Second Balkan War , when the Turkish army recaptured Eastern Thrace , the entire Bulgarian population fled from Kavaklı to Bulgaria . Refugees (see Thracian Bulgarians ) from Kavaklı also settled in and around Burgas, including 23 families in Rawnez.
Military airfield
Between 1953 and 2001 a military airfield was operated by the Bulgarian Air Force in Rawnez. The Ravnets Air Base (Bulgarian Авиобаза Равнец; ICAO: LBBR) was a secret facility in which the 15th Squadron of the Bulgarian Air Force was based. Although the base is closed, it is still closely guarded today.
