Rebekka is the stage name of the German singer and guitarist Jutta Hirschfeld (born November 17, 1950 in Niederkleveez , Schleswig-Holstein ). Their music is a mixture of folklore and hits .

biography

When Hirschfeld started secondary school at the age of twelve, the music teacher refused her membership in the school choir because he found her voice “tinny”. In 1967 she switched to the State Foreign Language School to train as a foreign language correspondent. It turned out, however, that this profession was little suited to her.

During the holidays, Hirschfeld sold records in a department store and paid for her first guitar with the earnings and pocket money she saved . She learned to play the instrument with the help of a friend who showed her the most important fingerings . The knowledge of English , French and Spanish , which she had acquired during her training, helped a lot in understanding texts and enabled a more soulful interpretation, as she has now supplemented her guitar playing with singing. Her pitch is alto with nasal articulation .

Hirschfeld had her first appearances in the Hamburg folklore club " Danny's Pan ", where she was discovered by the arranger Rolf Marion. After a long period of studio work , the debut single I believe in the power of love , which went unnoticed, was released under the pseudonym "Rebekka". The third single, Schön is every day of love , also had a hard time at the beginning, but gained greater fame after an appearance in the German Schlagerparade of the NDR . This was followed by a tour of German and West Berlin radio stations and entry into the German charts , where the song reached number 45 in June 1973. However, every day of love Rebekka's only chart hit was Schön .

As a reservations agent in Lufthansa's Hamburg city office , she had the opportunity to travel to many different countries and further develop her foreign language skills. As a result, she soon sang not only in German , French, English and Spanish, but also in Italian , Greek , Portuguese , Russian , Hebrew , Yugoslav and Czech . There was no multilingual folk album that she wanted to record.

Rebekka is the daughter of an insurance inspector and has a sister ten years older than her.
