Riedel shipping company
Passenger ship Kreuzberg
The shipping company Riedel GmbH is a passenger shipping company in the German capital Berlin and formerly in Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt . The company was founded in 1971 by Margarete and Heinz Riedel under the name Reederei Heinz Riedel in West Berlin with its headquarters in Berlin-Kreuzberg in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district , and from 2012 relocated to the newly created port of Rummelsburg .
history
With the fall of the Berlin Wall , the shipping company , which until then had mainly been on the waterways in western Berlin , was able to extend its sightseeing tours to all of Berlin's rivers and canals. In 1996 the Freise family acquired the family company and founded the Riedel GmbH shipping company . Over time, the shipowners acquired more ships and hired new employees. A gradual modernization of the fleet began in 1997 and six new ships were put into service from 2003. Since 2008, the shipping company has been the second largest passenger shipping company in Berlin after Stern and Kreisschiffahrt, with 16 passenger ships and 38 berths in the Berlin urban area . Uwe Fabich and Holger Jackisch have been the new owners of the Riedel shipping company since January 2020. You already own the Funkhaus Nalepastraße, which is located next to the headquarters of the Riedel shipping company .
Bernhard Freise, brother of the former Berlin managing director, ran the independent shipping company Riedel GmbH Halle in Halle an der Saale . The trips there took place between Bernburg and Merseburg on the Saale . After bankruptcy, the ships put in were sold in 2019.
Service of the shipping company in Berlin
Around 40 different trips are offered, which primarily take place in the urban area of Berlin on the Spree , the Landwehr Canal and its connecting canals. In addition to the fixed routes, ships can be chartered by companies or private individuals.
The shipping company supports social projects such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Berlin Association of Small Entrepreneurs.
Ship inventory of the shipping company
In Berlin
The company operates a total of 15 passenger ships on Berlin's waters.
The shipping company had the Spree-Diamant ship equipped with soot particle filters at the beginning of the 2010s , and the Kreuzberg ship also received such a filter. The fine dust particles emitted by the diesel engines are thus reduced by up to 97 percent. In the course of the discussion about environmental pollution in inner cities, this is an important contribution made by ship owners.

Spree princess as a Berlin fairytale ship
In 2004 the management of the shipping company introduced the reading of European fables and fairy tales on board one of their ships as a special offer. Since then, the Spree princess has been sailing the waters of Berlin as Arche Europa every spring or summer . The campaign is supported by the federal government, politicians, diplomats, artists and the Märchenland association .
