The federal highway 1 leads through Reesen , on which one arrives at the castle situated 5.5 kilometers to the west. The place is surrounded by extensive forest areas, including the nature reserve “ Bürgerholz bei Burg ” in the north . To the south, there are agricultural areas which, with an average land value index of 34, are not very productive. The municipal area drops significantly from south to north from 60 to 38 meters above sea level. The Burg radio station with systems for medium and long wave reception is two kilometers away as the crow flies .

history

The first proven persons in connection with Reesen are the Counts of Schwerin and Johann von Plotho, the latter received the place as a fiefdom from the Counts . The last third of the 12th century can be assumed for this process. The first written mention under the place name "Resene" comes from the year 1289. The von Plotho family , whose main seat was Altenplathow near Genthin , determined the fortunes of the place for many centuries. Located on the border between the Archdiocese of Magdeburg and the Margraviate of Brandenburg , Reesen was repeatedly involved in border disputes, which were often associated with looting and pillage. It was not until 1680 that the archbishopric was converted into a Brandenburg principality that the territorial situation was finally clarified. Reesen was now in the area of responsibility of District II in the Jerichower district of the Mark Brandenburg. After the Prussian administrative reform of 1815, the district became the Jerichow II district with the district town of Genthin. With the completion of the Chaussee Magdeburg - Berlin in 1824, the infrastructure gradually changed. If the place was previously dominated by agriculture, now numerous craftsmen have settled. In addition to two windmills, a wheelwright, a joinery and a forge were built. The number of inhabitants rose from 209 in 1820 to 426 in 1854.

During the GDR period, Reesen returned to its predominantly agricultural character. Many residents found work as out-commuters in the industrial plants of the nearby town of Burg. With the GDR territorial reform in 1952, Burg had also become the responsible district town. On December 21, 1953, the first medium-wave transmitter went into operation in the nearby radio station. Later, the most powerful transmitter in the GDR stood here with 1000 kW. In 1964 Reesen had 444 residents. After the collapse of the GDR in 1989, Reesen developed into a preferred location for home building. The municipality made two large building areas available for this purpose. Due to the increased influx, the number of residents increased. In addition to a few small businesses, an agricultural cooperative continued the local agricultural tradition.

On January 1, 2005 Reesen joined the Möckern-Loburg-Fläming administrative community . On July 1, 2009 Reesen was incorporated into the town of Burg.
