Government of Klement Gottwald II
The Klement Gottwald II government , led by Prime Minister Klement Gottwald , was in office from February 25 to June 15, 1948. Her inauguration, which went down in history as the February revolution , marked the completion of the Communist takeover and the establishment of the Stalinist dictatorship in Czechoslovakia . It followed the Klement Gottwald I government and was replaced by the Antonín Zápotocký government .
Government formation, program
After Interior Minister Nosek (KPTsch) wanted to replace some high-level non-communist police officials with communists and after Prime Minister Gottwald rejected a planned government discussion about the abuse of the security forces (police, but above all the state security ), the non-communist government members stepped up in protest on May 20 Back in February 1948, on February 25th they were followed by two more Social Democrats. In order to avoid the danger of new elections, President Beneš was put under pressure - from numerous demonstrations, massive appearance of armed people's militias to the general strike on February 24, 1948. Beneš finally accepted the resignations and agreed that Gottwald succeeded the government would reconstruct his ideas without advocating new elections.
