PAMINA Eurodistrict
The Eurodistrict PAMINA is a European Association for Territorial Cooperation (EGTC), which comprises the three sub-areas of Southern Palatinate , Baden and Alsace . The name PAMINA is an acronym which is composed Pa latinat (Pfalz), Mi ttlerer Upper Rhine and N ord A composed lsace (Northern Alsace). The association is a Franco-German European region .

geography
The PAMINA area extends over an area of around 6,000 km² and is home to a population of 1.6 million people, of which around 16,000 are so-called cross - border commuters , ie they cross the border every day on their way to work. The area of the Eurodistrict PAMINA is characterized by its location on the northern Upper Rhine and by its delimitation by three low mountain ranges:
- Black Forest (east, right bank of the Rhine)
- North Vosges (west, left bank of the Rhine)
- Palatinate Forest (west, left bank of the Rhine)
The population density of the individual sub-areas is very different:
- Middle Upper Rhine region (Baden): 450 inhabitants / km²
- South Palatinate : 195 inhabitants / km²
- Northern Alsace : 124 inhabitants / km²
tasks
The cooperation that emerged in the 1990s initially focused primarily on tourism and spatial planning . Synergy effects should be used. In 2003, a local cross-border association was founded on the basis of the Karlsruhe Convention.
Tasks today are a joint spatial development according to the key objectives of the Eurodistrict, the provision of information and advice on cross-border issues within the framework of the INFOBEST task , the preparation and supervision of cross-border projects in various areas as well as the administration of European funding within the framework of the PAMINA21 small project fund (INTERREG IV A. Upper Rhine) .
