Werdenberg region
The Werdenberg region is located in the east of the Swiss canton of St. Gallen .
The region is located on the left side of the Rhine in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley , on the eastern flank of the Alvier chain , the Margelchopf , the Churfirsten and Alpstein massifs . It borders in the north on the lower Rhine valley , in the east on the Principality of Liechtenstein , in the south on the Sarganserland , in the west on the Toggenburg and the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden .
The area of eastern Switzerland Werdenberg region is congruent with the former District Werdenberg , which has existed since the beginning of 2003 Constituency Werdenberg . From north to south it comprises the political communities of Sennwald (with the villages of Sennwald, Frümsen, Salez, Sax and Haag), Gams , Grabs (with the village of Grabs and the town of Werdenberg ), Buchs (with Buchs, Altendorf and Räfis), Sevelen and Wartau (with Oberschan , Gretschins , Malans, Fontnas, Weite , Azmoos and Trübbach ).
The history of the region is directly related to the Counts of Werdenberg . Sights include Werdenberg Castle , the historic town of Werdenberg and the adjacent Werdenbergersee . The transport hub is Buchs with connections to SBB , ÖBB , PostBus , buses and the motorway .
