Until the middle of the 20th century, the Schaumburg costume dominated the appearance of the Rehrener. Today there are only a few dying redrock women who have remained true to tradition. The everyday costume of the Rehrener red skirt women was a blue or black (as a sign of mourning) apron over a red-orange skirt made of thick cloth , which was set off at the hem by two black stripes.

Traditionally, a dialect of the East Westphalian Platt was spoken in Rehren. Like the traditional costume, however, it has increasingly lost its importance in favor of Standard German since the middle of the 20th century.

The fire fighting association of the parish and registry office district of Hohnhorst with the towns of Haste, Rehren, Ohndorf, Helsinghausen, Niengraben and Hohnhorst was established around 1854, because part of the church chronicle states that a purchase had been postponed to repair the parish's fire engine can. This was necessary.

Rehren has been part of the Lower Saxony village renewal program since 2009.
