Reijo Kalevi Mikkolainen (born May 14, 1964 in Pirkkala ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player .

Career

Reijo Mikkolainen began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of Tappara Tampere , for whose professional team he was active from 1983 to 1989 in the SM-liiga , the highest Finnish league. With the team he won the Finnish championship title in 1984, 1986, 1987 and 1988 . Following the 1988/89 season, the winger moved within the league to TPS Turku , with whom he was also champions in 1990, 1991 and 1993. He also won the European Ice Hockey Cup with TPS in 1993 . The 1993/94 season he partly spent with TPS ' farm team Kiekko-67 in the second-class I-divisioona . He then played for a year and a half for the SM-liiga participant Ilves Tampere , before he returned to his ex-club Tappara Tampere during the 1995/96 season . For the 1996/97 season , the Finn joined the EC Peiting from the 1st League South , the second highest German division at the time. The following season , however, also he spent in Germany, this time in the third-rate second league at TuS Geretsried . He then ended his career at the age of 34.

In 2005, Mikkolainen was honored with the induction into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame.

International

For Finland , Mikkolainen took part in the junior division at the U18 European Junior Championship in 1982 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 1984 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1987 , 1989 and 1990 and at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary . At the U20 World Cup in 1984 and the Olympic Winter Games in 1988, he and his teams won the silver medal.

His great-grandfather Kalle Mikkolainen won the bronze medal in gymnastics with the Finnish team at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London .
