Reinhard Möller (sculptor)
Reinhard Möller (born August 26, 1855 in Ruhla ; † July 23, 1912 in Sonneberg ) was a German sculptor and technical school teacher.
Life
Möller Was the son of the meerschaum cutter Emil Möller and his wife Christ. (nee Kirsting). From 1869 to 1874 he was first a student of the sculptor Tobias Weiß and the court sculptor Georg Kugel in Ruhla, then he studied at the Nuremberg Art School from 1874 to 1877 . From 1877 to 1887 he worked as a modeller in the field of busts in the porcelain factory Hertwig & Co. in Katzhütte , later as head of the modeling department of the porcelain factory AWF Kister in Scheibe-Alsbach . In the following years he created impressive porcelain sculptures here . The pair of figures " Golden Fleece " are among his most famous models . Möller made several trips for study purposes or to take part in exhibitions; among others to Paris (1878), journey through Belgium and France (1884), Bohemia (1889), Vienna, Trieste, Upper Italy and Switzerland (1891). He was twice in North America (1893 in Chicago, 1904 in St. Louis). In 1900 he visited Antwerp, Brussels and Paris.
On July 1, 1887, Möller was appointed director of the Sonneberg Industrial School (later the technical school for applied arts ) in recognition of his overall work . In 1901 he was awarded the title of professor. He taught modeling and anatomy . Möller contributed to making the Sonneberg toy industry known around the world.
His display groups for the world exhibitions in Paris 1900 , St. Louis 1904 and Brussels 1910 each received a Grand Prix. His services were honored in 1894 with the Golden Medal for Science and Art of the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg , in 1900 with the Russian Cross of Merit for Science and Art and in 1904 with the Prussian Red Eagle Order IV class. He died in 1912, his successor as director of the Sonneberg Industrial School was Karl Staudinger .
