Reinhold Lebrecht Moritz von Hanstein (born October 16, 1819 in Schmolsin , † October 5, 1876 in Stolp ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were Heinrich August von Hanstein (* October 4, 1787; † February 20, 1857) and his wife Julie, born von Kleist from the Wendisch-Tychow family (* May 8, 1791; † June 22, 1866).

Career

He received his education at the Johannesschule and the grammar school in Danzig , later then at the Cologne grammar school in Berlin . After graduating, he went on November 10, 1837 as a hussar in the 12th hussar regiment . There he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich on June 2, 1838 , on September 18, 1840 to Second Lieutenant and on May 10, 1853 to Premier Lieutenant . From 1853 to 1858 he was assigned to the 12th Landwehr Hussar Regiment as a squadron leader , during which time he was appointed Rittmeister on July 10, 1855 . After his return he was on September 14, 1858 squadron chief in the 12th Hussar Regiment , but on May 12, 1860 he came to the 2nd combined Dragoon Regiment and on July 1, 1860 as a squadron chief in the 6th Dragoons Regiment . There he was promoted to major on June 25, 1864, and appointed staff officer on August 14, 1865.

During the German War of 1866 he was in the Main Army . He fought in the battles near Hausen, Roßbrunn, Üttingen and Hettstadt and in the bombardment of Würzburg. After the war, on July 26, 1867, he was entrusted with the leadership of the 1st Leib-Hussar Regiment and was placed à la suite of the regiment. He was confirmed as commander on September 25, 1867 and promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1868 . On September 18, 1869, it received the Order of the Crown, 2nd Class, and on July 26, 1870, it was promoted to colonel .

During the Franco-Prussian War he fought at Beaumont , Sedan , Orleans , Le Mans and Beaugency as well as the battles at Bazoches-les-Gallerandes, Change, battle at Sceaux , Petit Bicetre, Marolles, Artenay, Coulmiers , Meung and Vendorne. For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd class.

After the war he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle 3rd Class with Swords on January 18, 1874 . On February 12, 1874, he was given the character of major general and was put on disposition with a pension due to illness .

family

Hanstein married the baroness Agathe Heliodore Viktoria Agnes Marschall von Altengottern on June 16, 1857 in Altengottern (* February 22, 1827 - † May 13, 1895). The couple had several children:
