Reinhold Rüegg

Reinhold Rüegg (born on August 12, 1842 in Wila ; died on July 11, 1923 in Zurich ) was a Swiss educator , journalist and member of the Zurich Constitutional Council.

Life

Reinhold Rüegg was the son of the teacher Johann Heinrich Rüegg and Elisabet Rüegg, nee. Rupper . Rüegg married Juliane Baumann in 1863 . From 1858 to 1861 he studied at the Küsnacht teacher training college . From 1861 to 1869 he worked as a primary and secondary teacher in Bäretswil , Langnau am Albis and Turbenthal . At the same time he studied from 1863 to 1865 at the Geneva Academy. Together with Friedrich Salomon Vögelin , he fought for a revision of the Zurich constitution in 1867. In 1868 and 1869 he was a member of the Zurich Constitutional Council. From 1870 to 1877 he was editor of Des Landboten , Winterthur and from 1873 of Grütlianer and worked as a freelance journalist. In 1879 he founded the Züricher Post together with Theodor Curti . He worked for the theoretical journal of the social democracy, Die Neue Zeit, edited by Karl Kautsky . Rüegg belonged to the left wing of the Democrats. In addition to editorials, he wrote a report on the Paris Commune and a meeting with Karl Marx in 1871 . Rüegg wrote numerous books and essays.

His estate is in the Zurich Central Library. Signature: Ms Z II 402 & a-b, 403 . Digitized. The Friedrich Ebert Foundation has a previously unprinted letter from Friedrich Engels to Rüegg dated August 20, 1893 .
