Reinhold Philipp Johann von Anrep-Elmpt ( Russian Роман Иосифович Анреп-Эльмпт ; born January 30, 1834 in Kursk , † August 26, 1888 in Siam ) was a German-Baltic officer in the Imperial Russian service and explorer .

Life

Reinhold Graf von Anrep-Elmpt came from the German-Baltic noble family Anrep . He was the eldest son of the Imperial Russian officer, most recently General of the Cavalry , Joseph Karl Anrep-Elmpt and his wife Cäcilie Philippine, née. Countess von Elmpt (1812-1892), court master of Tsarina Alexandra .

Anrep-Elmpt grew up in Riga and St. Petersburg . Like his father, he began his career in the army with the page corps in St. Petersburg and eventually became a chamberlain before joining the Chevalier Guard Regiment in 1854 as a cornet . 1854-55 he was in the Crimean War and left the military in 1858 with the rank of Rittmeister . Until 1870 he worked as a farmer in the Kerstenhof farm in Livonia , today Estonia . He devoted the following years to his passion for ethnographic research and spent it as an explorer, being in Australia from 1878 to 1881 and again in 1882. He later toured the East Indies, China, Japan, California, Central a. South America, Cambodia and Siam. Anrep-Elmpt died at the age of 54 in the village of Main-Ling-Gyll in Siam, now Thailand, of a malignant fever. With his death, the count's branch of the von Anrep-Elmpt died out.

Anrep-Elmpt was married from 1858 to Leontine von Tenner (1838-1910), daughter of the Imperial Russian General of the Infantry Carl Friedrich Tenner . That marriage ended in divorce in 1862. In his second marriage from 1866 he was married to Freiin Helene von Stackelberg from the Thomel family (1845–1930).
