Reinhold von Derschau (also: Derschow, Dersczaw; born April 1, 1600 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † April 5, 1667 ibid) was a German lawyer.

Life

Derschau came from the Prussian - kurländischem noble family Derschau that many years to Danzig had established himself as alderman in the city patricians. His grandfather Bernhard Derschau († 1590), who had acted as councilor there, moved to Königsberg, where he also held a councilor position. His marriage to Anna, daughter of Bernhard Fahrenheit, has three sons. Among these was Reinhold von Derschau's father Bernhard von Derschau (* May 25, 1560 - August 23, 1632), Ursela (* October 18, 1561 - December 4, 1645), daughter of Henning Boye and widow of Councilor Nikolaus Wegner, had married. He became a royal Prussian court judge and on December 15, 1602, was raised to the rank of imperial nobility and knighthood by Emperor Rudolf II .

That marriage had seven children, five of whom died at a young age. One of the two surviving children was Reinhold mentioned here, the other his brother, the later theologian Bernhard von Derschau (* July 17, 1591, † March 13, 1639). Since the family had sufficient financial means, Reinhold and his brother should have received an excellent basic education. On July 3, 1615, he was matriculated at the University of Königsberg . He continued his university education in 1620 at the University of Jena . After traveling through the Netherlands , England , France , Spain and Italy , he received his doctorate in law from the University of Strasbourg in 1628 with the paper Positiones Iuridicae Centum, Quas Sub Praesidio Divino ...

He returned to his homeland traveling via Hungary and Poland . There he was appointed in 1639 as the first professor of the law faculty at the University of Königsberg. In this capacity he also participated in the organizational tasks of the university and was rector of the alma mater in the summer semesters of 1639 and 1643 . He resigned his professorship in 1643 when he was appointed court judge by the Brandenburg elector in Königsberg. However, he stayed with the law school as a senior. In 1657 he was also a tribunal counselor at the higher appeal court. In 1663, the Brandenburg elector confirmed his title of nobility and he was hereditary lord of the Wenigkeim, Mamlack, Waldhausen etc.
