Reinier de Graaf
Reinier de Graaf or Reijnerus de Graeff (born July 30, 1641 in Schoonhoven , † August 17, 1673 in Delft ) was a Dutch doctor and anatomist. He is considered a co-founder of experimental physiology .
biography
Reinier de Graaf went to his study of medicine in Utrecht and Leiden to Angers to anatomical studies on the pancreas to perform. Back in the Netherlands, de Graaf settled in Delft in 1667. May 1672, Reijnerus de Graeff married Maria van Dijck in the town hall. As a Catholic in the predominantly Protestant Netherlands, he was denied a university career in Leiden when the famous Franciscus Sylvius died. His son Fredericus was baptized on March 21, 1673 and buried on April 7. After a plagiarism allegation in the priority dispute over an injection technique for depicting blood vessels by Jan Swammerdam , his long-time friend, he passed away on August 17, 1673, presumably through suicide and was buried in Delft on August 21. A few months before his death, as a member of the Royal Society , he recommended the attention of Antoni van Leeuwenhoek and his excellent microscopes .
Reinier de Graaf discovered the ovarian follicle in the ovary , although the tertiary follicle as Graaf's follicle is still named after him today. From observing an ectopic pregnancy , he concluded that there must be an egg cell inside a follicle , although he never saw one. He described the function of the fallopian tube and referred to the importance of a hydrosalpinx for fertility in women. He described first the female ejaculation , pointing to a particularly sensitive area in the front vaginal wall , which he with prostate brought the man into context and later by the German gynecologist Ernst Grafenberg in his quest for the vaginal pleasure center of the woman as G- Point was rediscovered.
