René van Heusden

René van Heusden (also called Renato ; born August 2, 1888 in Beverst near Bilzen ; † March 22, 1958 in Elisabethville ) was a Belgian religious , missionary and Roman Catholic bishop .

Life

After he had entered the religious community of the Salesians of Don Bosco and had studied philosophy and theology, he had to take part in the First World War . After he was discharged from military service due to an injury, he went to the Belgian Congo , now the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as a missionary in 1916 . He was appointed Master of the College in Elizabethville, completed his theological studies and was on 19 September 1919 in Cape Town for ordained priests .

From 1920 to 1928 he was director in Kiniama , then until 1934 in La Kafubu . From 1927 he was inspector of schools in the apostolic prefecture. In 1945 he was appointed provicer to Bishop Joseph Sak . After his death he was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Sakania and Titular Bishop of Cariana on February 13, 1947 . On 11 June 1947 he donated the bishop of Liege , Louis-Joseph Kerkhofs , in Liege , the episcopal ordination . Co-consecrators were the Vicar Apostolic of North Katanga , Georges Joseph Haezaert CSSp , and the Vicar Apostolic of Boma , Jozef Vanderhoven CICM .
