Renata Lidia Beger (born July 18, 1958 in Silno) is a Polish politician, entrepreneur and former member of the Sejm .

Training and work

Beger completed a second degree in political science and journalism in 2007 and a degree in administrative law at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan in 2011 .

From 1976 to 1988 Beger worked as the head of several cooperative institutions and has been running an agricultural business since 1988 with an area of ​​2 hectares, and since 1990 she has been running an agricultural service company. From 2000 to 2003 she also held a management position on the board of directors of the social insurance institution for farmers . In addition, in 2006 she became a columnist for the “Tygodnik Nowy” magazine published by Henryk Stokłosa . In 2008 she hosted a cooking program on local television "TV Pilska" for a few months.

Union and political activity

Beger was co-initiator and long-time general secretary of the Samoobrona party of the later Deputy Prime Minister Andrzej Lepper . From 1992 to 2001 she was the deputy chairman of the party-affiliated union in the Greater Poland Voivodeship . She ran unsuccessfully for the first time in the parliamentary elections in Poland in 1993 for her party for the Sejm . In the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2001 , she finally won a seat for the Sejm in the Piła constituency and became secretary of the “Samoobrona” faction. As a deputy, she was also a member of the committee of inquiry into the Rywin affair , from which she was removed on December 3, 2003. In the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2005 , she was able to return to the Sejm.

On September 26, 2006, a film recorded with the help of a hidden camera was shown on the television program “Teraz my” on the private Polish broadcaster TVN (see tape affair ). In the short recording, Beger suggested her terms to the Sejm member and deputy party chairman of the PiS , Adam Lipiński , in exchange for her possible conversion. These included demands for a promising position on the list, a job in the Ministry of Agriculture and unspecified assistance with ongoing legal proceedings.

In the early parliamentary elections in Poland in 2007 , she finally lost her mandate and was dismissed from all positions within her party. In 2008 she left the party and refrained from further political activities. In 2013, Beger was elected chairman of the regional small agricultural union . However, she only held this position for one year and in 2015 became Deputy Chairwoman of a nationwide agreement of small agricultural unions.

Criminal proceedings

In November 2003, Beger waived her parliamentary immunity. In January 2004 she was charged with registering for her candidacy with false supporter signatures before the 2001 parliamentary elections. In June 2006, she was sentenced to two years suspended prison sentence. This judgment was overturned by an appeals court in June 2007 and a retrial was initiated. In June 2008, after the retrial, the Piła District Court sentenced Beger to a fine of 30,000 złoty and a two-year suspended prison sentence. Beger denied her guilt several times. In June 2009, a district court upheld the appeal in the first instance after the retrial after the appeal.

In October 2008, the Szamotuły District Court sentenced her to a fine for violating the electoral code. The violation was that she paid money to someone to collect supporter signatures for her party. This judgment was upheld in February 2009 by the Poznan District Court.

Media presence

On May 16, 2003, the tabloid Super Express published an interview on Beger's private life that drew public attention to her because she repeatedly misappropriated in her answers and used obscene expressions. As a result, she became the protagonist of various parodic songs by music groups such as " Big Cyc ". In 2006 she also appeared briefly as a candidate in the television program Let's Dance on the private Polish broadcaster “ Polsat ”.

Private life

Beger is married and has two children. She lives in Nowy Dwór near Złotów .
