action

Léo is an unsuccessful screenwriter who lives for the day. He does not have a permanent place to live, but has mainly kept his property with friends and acquaintances. Work on a new script is slow and he finds no inspiration. One day he goes to the provinces in his car and drives through the villages. He stops in a village where he approaches an attractive young man - Yoan - who appears to be living with an old man - Marcel. He asks if he's interested in going to the film, but Yoan refuses. Léo continues and finally continues on foot. In the fields he meets the young shepherdess Marie, with whom he starts a conversation about sheep and wolves. The area is populated by wolves, who occasionally attack sheep. Marie therefore always has a rifle with her, because you cannot exterminate the wolves, but you can keep them at a distance. Léo has nothing against wolves.

Léo and Marie get closer and he is allowed to stay with her and her father Jean-Louis for a while. Léo and Marie sleep together. After a while, Léo goes back to town, where he tries in vain to write his script. He consoled the film producer that he would have the script ready in a few weeks. He receives an advance. After a few months, Léo returns to the country. On the way to Marie he looks for Yoan, who rejects him. Marcel also indicates that Yoan was not enthusiastic about Léo's "Advances". Léo realizes that Marie is pregnant; shortly afterwards she gives birth to a boy. She already has two children and is indifferent to the newborn. When Léo doesn't decide whether he wants to live with her, she moves to town with her two older sons and leaves the newborn with him.

Léo is baseless. With the child at his side, he was supposed to look for Marie, but evaded the meeting like his producer, whom he put off again because of the script. He finds shelter with naturopath Dr. Mirande; the next time he visits Jean-Louis, he stops by Marcel, who has since been left by Yoan. He went to Australia to have fun with men. Jean-Louis appears and is angry because Léo did not visit Marie. He brings him to her. She refuses to see the child. At the same time, she makes it clear to him that she would never want to live with him - Léo realizes that he wants to raise the child by himself and is happy with the situation. He is staying with Jean-Louis, who at night the wolves tear down part of the flock of sheep. Jean-Louis takes the child and secretly brings it to the pasture at night to attract the wolves with the screaming. Léo saves the child. Jean-Louis tries to approach Léo, but he rejects him.

Léo leaves and visits Marcel again on the way back. Yoan's back. Again Léo comes to Dr. Mirande below, where the producer soon visits him. He forces him to start the script, but Léo escapes with his child. He is now without money, begs strangers in his city and is finally attacked by homeless people. Jean-Louis and Yoan save him. He's supposed to take care of Marcel while Jean-Louis takes young Yoan away. Marcel is seriously ill and overdoses on a drug mix. Léo, with whom Marcel had flirted over and over again, sleeps with him until the drugs work and Marcel dies. Marcel is questioned by the police, his child is given to Marie by court order. Léo realizes that Marie's new lover is none other than Yoan; He is no longer allowed to see his child. He finds accommodation with Jean-Louis, whom he helps herd sheep.

Months pass, occasionally Yoan comes to Jean-Louis' farm with the child and Léo can spend time with his son. The wolves are still a plague. One day, Léo goes out to pasture with a lamb and slowly approaches a wolf who is quietly waiting for him. Jean-Louis appears and takes the lamb, because Léo's experiment is pointless. Suddenly the whole pack slowly approaches the two men and the lamb. Léo says both should stand up straight and not show fear. As long as this works and both don't fall, nothing will happen.
