restorm (a play on words from “re” as part of “revolution” and “storm”) was a music platform with the aim of mapping the processes and networks of the music world on one platform. It is based on user-generated content . At the end of 2014 the website could no longer be reached.

Restorm has so far mainly been active in the German-speaking area and had a total of 39,095 members in October 2012. In addition, 9,030 band profiles and 1,277 label and venue profiles were registered.

history

The platform was created with the help of the Ruby on Rails framework and put into operation by restorm AG in October 2007 with three divisions: the music platform restorm.com, the music video portal restorm.tv, the rights to videos from Warner , EMI , and Universal and Sony owned, as well as the planned web radio restorm.fm. After a restructuring in June 2008, the two parts restorm.fm and restorm.tv were discarded and they were integrated into the restorm.com music platform in order to do justice to the all-encompassing community concept of restorm.com.

In the summer of 2011, the study gave creative demands for technology - music platforms a grade of 1.5 in the MHMK restorm.com stress test . Also in 2011 restorm.com was voted into the top 100 of the best Swiss startups by startup.ch.

Working together

Collaboration with Creative Commons

In May 2008 a close collaboration with Creative Commons was announced. Philippe Perreaux, CEO of restorm.com and board member at Creative Commons Switzerland, wanted to implement the idea of ​​free exchange of content on the Internet on restorm.com as well. This made it possible for music creators to make their works available with Creative Commons licensing for legal free download and for creative further use. The collaboration, which is new for music platforms, met with positive media coverage. The Schweizer Tages-Anzeiger wrote on September 9, 2008: restorm.com "... is the first major music portal from Switzerland that offers free downloads based on the Creative Commons (CC) principle." On myoon. de later said in an article about the functions of restorm.com: "As already mentioned, the platform is also opening up to alternative utilization models." In the meantime, around 11,000 musical works with a Creative Commons license have been released for free download on the platform .

In March 2009, on the occasion of a collaboration with the newsmail service Ron Orp, a compilation of regional and national artists such as Sophie Hunger , Big Zis and Phenomden with Creative Commons licensing from Switzerland and Zurich was created.

Further collaborations

Various musical projects have been implemented since restorm.com was launched. restorm.com is particularly successful in tenders for support concerts for larger live acts and in media collaborations with various partners. In recent years, bands have been able to apply as opening act for stereophonics , Jennifer Rostock and Morcheeba . As a result of the collaboration with the Greenfield Festival , a large contest has been held annually since 2011, at which an appearance at the open air is raffled. Between 2009 and 2012 restorm.com and the online portal von 20 Minuten , the subsidiary of Tamedia AG and the largest free newspaper in Switzerland, worked together. Every week an article appeared in the print and online edition of 20 Minuten about a band on restorm.com.

Community features

The site hosts profile pages for members, musicians, record labels , clubs and promoters. Music can be streamed and also downloaded if the artist has approved it. In addition, all members can provide information about themselves, their musical tastes and the concerts they have attended. All members on restorm.com can support musicians of their choice. Clubs and labels can pass concert opportunities on to musicians through tenders or advertisements.

Restorm.com members can send messages to each other, save playlists and make friends on the platform. The semantic structure of the website is designed for a realistic reproduction of the connections in the music world: For example, a label creates connections to bands under contract.

Facebook app

With the Facebook applications it is possible for bands, labels and venues to present themselves on Facebook in the best possible way with pictures, videos and music.

• Band App : Artists can present their band, offer music and publish news via Facebook.
• Label app : Labels can present their bands, publish information and extracts and offer music.
• Venue App : Venues such as clubs, cafés or bars can point out upcoming events and publish information.

Mobile app

With the mobile app, artists on restorm.com can create their own app for smartphones, which is synchronized with the restorm.com profile and thus contains the latest songs, news, events and other information. The content is completely customizable: colors and content can be freely selected by the artist. App users, i.e. fans, can be informed of news via push notifications.

Featuring, booking and demo tapes

Different pools are available for labels, organizers and venues to process band applications.

• Featuring pool : Using the featuring pool, band applications can be collected, filtered, sorted and selected for featureings. The featuring is created directly from the pool and appears automatically on restorm.com, both for the band and the media partner, as well as in the band feed, where all featured bands are listed.
• Booking pool : The booking pool enables event organizers to find and book bands for their venues. As with the Featuring Pool, band applications are collected in one place and can be processed from there. The booking requests for individual bands can be sent directly from the booking pool.
• Demotape Pool : With the Demotape Pool a label can discover new bands and get in contact with them.

Sales and licensing

The artists can sell their music via restorm.com, Facebook app or widget. The pieces of music can also be released for licensing via rightclearing.com .

• Connect : Connect enables users to synchronize Facebook , Myspace , SoundCloud , Youtube , Twitter and restorm.com with each other in order to only make profile updates on one channel, but spread them across all social media channels.
• Widgets : Using various widgets, the complete band profile, individual albums or specific songs can be integrated on a homepage for viewing.
• Spreadshirt Shop : With the Spreadshirt Shop, artists can create their own merchandise on restorm.com and offer them directly on their restorm.com profile.
