Revenge of the Warrior - Tom Yum Goong ( Thai : ต้มยำ กุ้ง , pronunciation: [ tôm jam kûŋ ], English: Tom Yum Goong ) is a 2005 Thai martial arts film directed by Prachya Pinkaew and starring Tony Jaa in the main role. The film is known as The Warrior King in the UK , The Protector in the US and Thai Dragon in Spain .

Kham, the last descendant of an ancestral chain of warriors who went into battle with war elephants , lives peacefully with his father and an elephant family in a village somewhere in Thailand. One day poachers invade the idyllic village and try to catch the baby elephant grain , but are surprised by the cow elephant trying to protect her calf. The intruders then shoot the mother elephant. The gang managed to escape without prey. Kham's father wants to subject the elephant bull Por Yai to a royal examination at a fair to determine whether it is suitable to serve as a gift to the King of Thailand. The bull elephant is tested positive and drawn in, whereupon the old man becomes suspicious. When he finally realizes that it is the well-known poachers, he is shot by the gang, which kidnaps not only the bull but also the elephant calf. Kham, who considers the two pachyderms to be part of his family, learns that his animals have been abducted by a certain Johnny to Sydney, Australia, and follows him there.

After arriving in Sydney , a short time later he witnessed the murder of a wanted criminal who drove him as a taxi driver. Sergeant Mark, a Thai-born police officer, arrested Kham for later interrogation. In the police car, Kham happened to see Johnny, who works as the manager of the fine restaurant Tom Yum Goong in the middle of the Asian quarter of Sydney. He then escapes from police custody to see Johnny. Soon he can confront him, but thanks to countless fighting, he escapes. Kham is injured and the prostitute Pla, who comes from Thailand, takes him in her apartment. Meanwhile, he is wanted as a suspect by the police and by the criminal Madame Rose, who masterminded the kidnapping of the elephants.

Sergeant Mark, who also proves to be uncomfortable for Madame Rose, is lured into a trap by his superior Vincent, who sympathizes with Madame Rose, but he manages to escape for the time being. He is said to have been accused of several murders, including one on Sydney's chief police officer. Pla accidentally witnesses the crime and secures a video recording that proves Mark's innocence. From now on, Mark is wanted by the police and is trapped again, where he is arrested by Johnny.

From Pla, Kham learns that Johnny and his gang operate from the Tom Yum Goong restaurant . After he fought his way to Johnny in the restaurant, later defeating him, he uncovered a major scandal. The store uses exotic animals for meals for rich gourmets, and it is also the headquarters of a large-scale human trade in Thai prostitutes. When he frees Mark, who is tied up in a room, he discovers his “little brother”, the baby elephant Korn.

Kham and Korn visit Madame Rose to ask her about the whereabouts of his beloved elephant. She is currently in a press conference and is fleeing, but Kham follows her and fights her way free. He also receives support from Mark, who is also looking for Madame Rose. When Kham can finally confront Madame Rose, he sees what has become of his precious bull elephant. Its skeleton, adorned with gold, towers over Madame Rose's chair and is intended to give her strength. Kham is initially deeply dismayed when he discovers the skeleton of Por Yai, but then turns into a fierce warrior who ultimately destroys all opponents. In the end, everything is cleared up, as Pla hands over her video evidence to the local police and rehabilitates Mark.

The German version has been shortened by 28 minutes compared to the original, so that, similar to Ong-Bak, some of the storylines are severely shortened or cannot be properly understood by the audience.

Originally they wanted to include the film as Ong-Bak 2 in the German film distribution; due to fan protests and the fact that Ong-bak 2 was already being shot, the film was released under a different name.

Despite widespread opinion, Jackie Chan doesn't have a cameo in Revenge of the Warrior - Tom Yum Goong . Tony Jaa is accidentally jostled at Sydney Airport by a man who looks a lot like Jackie Chan, but it is proven that he is not. The actor's identity is unknown.

The roughly 4-minute fight scene, which is shown in the middle section of the film in a restaurant over several floors, is often described by critics as remarkable because, despite many stunts and individual fights, it is similar to a one-cut video without a single cut gets by.
