Flora and fauna

The foreland of the Rhine near Perrich forms a habitat of softwood meadows and bank vegetation on a still water body of around 35 hectares , which was created through excavation and is connected to the Rhine depending on the water level. In the west of the foothills of the Rhine there are smaller poplar and willow stands with a high proportion of dead wood . The area is of particular value not only as a winter resting area for geese and ducks, but also as a breeding area for a large number of other bird species. The area's surroundings are characterized by grassland that is used as pastureland .

The permanent preservation and development of the softwood meadows is, in addition to preserving the water as a resting place for migratory birds, a main development goal in the foreland of the Rhine near Perrich.

Species of community interest according to the fauna, flora, habitat and bird protection directives are found in the area in particular

To the southwest, the FFH area is bounded by the Rhine dike between Büderich and Perrich, on which a cycling and hiking trail runs. From there, views of the area are possible.
