Richard Baldwin

Richard Edward Baldwin (* around 1958 ) is an American economist and university professor .

Life

Baldwin studied economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts before going to the London School of Economics (LSE). There he achieved the degree of a Master of Science (M.Sc). He received his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) . Doctoral supervisor there was Paul Krugman , with whom he later published several scientific articles.

1986 to 1989 Baldwin taught as an assistant at Columbia University Business School in New York City ; from 1989 to 1991 he was a professor at Columbia University. In 1990 and 1991 he was responsible for trade matters in the Council of Economic Advisors of US President George HW Bush .

Baldwin has been Professor of International Economics at the University Institute for International Studies and Development in Geneva since 1991 . In the following years he worked as a consultant for many governments and international organizations, including the European Union and the OECD . He is also known for his publications on economic issues.

Baldwin was President of the London Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) from 2016 to mid-2018 ; his successor was Beatrice Weder di Mauro .

He was twice a member of the Council of the European Economics Association. For 30 years he searches for the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge , Massachusetts on the topics of globalization and trade.
