Richard Gleim

Richard Gleim (* 1941 in Düsseldorf ; † July 16, 2019 ibid; pseudonym: ar / gee gleim ) was a German photographer . His stage name ar / gee gleim , which he adopted as a scene photographer in the Düsseldorf punk scene at the end of the 1970s , corresponds to the English pronunciation of his initials R. G.

biography

Richard Gleim worked as a trained gardener with an additional commercial apprenticeship. In the 1950s Gleim played the clarinet in various jazz bands and in the evenings went to the clubs of Düsseldorf's old town under the pseudonym "Fat Daddy" . In 1978 he began to work as a freelance photographer and took his first paid photos for Frau im Spiegel , before becoming a photographer of the emerging Düsseldorf punk scene through his acquaintance with the band Der Plan . The 1980 magazine Spex showed a large number of his photos.

Gleim's photo documentation Guter Abzug was presented at the 1982 documenta in Kassel. His photographs are considered contemporary documents and some of them were taken at the Ratinger Hof . They were part of the exhibition Back to Concrete in July 2002 in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf . Gleim ran an artist agency in Düsseldorf for years and wrote as an author in various online magazines and blogs . Gleim is represented with several stories in the anthology Düsseldorf Walking from 2014. Richard Gleim is also involved in the traveling exhibition of the Goethe-Institut Geniale Dilletanten with 25 exhibits.

Gleim's photographs from 1980 to 1983 were exhibited from September 30 to October 14, 2017 under the title ZK und die Toten Hosen at the “PostPost - Grand Central” in Düsseldorf. Richard Gleim died in July 2019 at the age of 78.
